- Understanding of the IDDSI diagram and resources.
- How to achieve each IDDSI level safely and testing methods
- Looking at cooking methods for dysphagia cooking, ingredients used and presentation.
- Understanding Taste with texture modified meals.
- Dangers associated with texture modified meals and what to look out for at ward level. Choice on menu for texture modified meals.

Care Planning 1: Implementation Residents’ Rights/Restrictive Practices & Positive Risk Taking
Online training, 9.30 a.m.—12.30 p.m., €5 p.p.
The 3-hour Documentation and Care Planning course for nurses focuses on implementing restrictive practice assessments and interventions in line with HIQA standards. Addressing critical areas like communication, nutrition, and falls reduction, participants will gain competence in assessment, planning, and evaluation processes. Objectives include risk management, understanding 'road mapping' in care plans, and creating SMARTER goals collaboratively with residents. The course ensures proficiency in developing clear and practical care plans, emphasizing individual needs and adhering to national standards.
Assisted Decision Making & Implementation/Review of Act re: Residents Rights
Online training, 9.30 a.m.—12.30 p.m., €5 p.p.
The 3-hour Overview of Assisted Decision-Making Capacity Act (2023) course empowers teams caring for older persons with the latest insights on the Act's practical implementation. Focusing on key aspects like enduring power of attorney and co-decision-making capacity, the program links to advanced wishes, positive risk-taking, and residents' rights. Participants will gain competence in decision-making related to care domains, understanding complaints linked to the Act, and the role of a co-decision maker. The course emphasizes multidisciplinary team input, risk assessments, and best practices in language, approach, and safety pauses within the facility. Accessible through Zoom, the session ensures staff readiness for future care planning courses in this domain.
Care Planning 2: Facilitating Assisted Decision Making & Residents Rights in Care Plans

The 3-hour Documentation and Care Planning - Implementation of Assisted Decision-Making Capacity Act and Residents Rights course empowers nurses caring for older persons with the latest insights on care plans in light of the Act's amendments. Focusing on advanced wishes, positive risk-taking, and residents' rights, the programme provides practical tips and links risk assessments to care plans. Participants will master decision-making rationales, multidisciplinary team input, and the assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation processes outlined by NMBI/HIQA/legislation. The course underscores 'road mapping' relevance, SMARTER goals, and practical development of individual care plans, enhancing comprehensive care planning skills.
